Welcome to Flytrek's updated (finally!) web site - I hope you enjoy visiting and return often. I'll do my best to keep it interesting and current, with regular updates and addition of interesting information about fly fishing. This summer has been pretty mild so far, and the high country is unseasonably green, lush even. The creeks and rivers are maintaining a good flow and fishing has been mostly pretty good. Concerns about locust numbers have proven are proving to be unnecessary, but there are still sufficient hoppers around to satisfy the trout. North-East streams are fishing well and there are plenty of kilo-size fish around, but while you're stalking the fish of the day, keep a wary eye out for our slithering friends - my last trip to the Nariel Creek showed just how healthy the local snake population is, so if you're wading 'wet', make sure you advertise your progress - waders on the other hand are excellent bite protection.
Our lakes are also looking fantastic, with Eildon having filled during 2011, and others either full or near full.
Beginners Schools- If you're wanting to learn the basics, or brush up a bit, get cracking and enrol in my fly school! Places are limited, and the season is well under way.
In the meantime, please feel free to email me any photos and trip stories, and I'll add them to my new gallery.
Good fishing,
Rod Barford
